At the beginning of my nurse journey, I have always wanted to be a Paediatric Nurse. My goal has certainly changed because now i want to become a missionary nurse or a community nurse, where i can go out to places where health care isn't an easy access. The medical world has always been a dream world for me. My mom is a nurse and I've always wanted to be her. When I turned 5 my mother gave me a doctor set and doctor coat for my birthday. From that day I wanted to work in the medical field. At the age of 14 I started babysitting and helping to take care of the kids in Sabbath school at my church. I started noticing that as I grew older I loved taking care of kids, and I also started volunteering at the Shepherds Care Nursing Home. In the future I would like to do some missionary work as a nurse, helping other who are in greater need in the poor countries.
Philosophy of Nursing
Being a nurse not only includes taking care of patients, but caring for them in the full extent that they will be happy and have full trust in you. My beliefs about the nursing profession is being respectful towards my patients. As a nurse I need to respect the confidentiality of my patients. I should also understand that they have different beliefs and values that I should respect and abide by them. Patients of different races, religion, sex, and financial status are going to come into the hospital looking for our help and we must give them the same level of care care to each and every one.
Standards of Practice
The Standards of Practice are guidelines for nurses in Canada. It is important for us nurse to take these Standards of Practice and apply it not only to our job but to ourselves. It teaches us how to take responsibility of our day to day work at the hospital and how to act professional and abide by the requirements of the standards of practices. It is our accountability to know and read, practice and keep up with the standards of nursing.
Values Statement
My personal values in life are respect and happiness. Respect is first and foremost within my culture and my family. To gain respect you must give respect first. Even if a patient does not respect me I must treat them with respect regardless if they are not cooperating. Happiness is vital in my life, if I do not keep happy then I have a bad outlook on life. If I continue to smile and replace good thoughts with bad thoughts then it will show in my day to day work.
